The University of Sydney's Continuing Education in Dentistry provided the implant material; registered dental hygienist Terri Slough prepared and presented the course; and 10 hygienists attended in Sydney last month.
Ms Slough presented material relevant to her four years of clinical experience with the influence of past and present literature on the maintenance of implants. The last section of the course was a hands-on simulated surgery. Each hygienist placed an implant in a replica mandible which they could take to display in their practices. Increasing knowledge and understanding of implant therapy in the interest of patients was the goal of the course.
Nobel Biocare Australia and the Colgate Oral Care Company supported the course with comprehensive displays and generous supplies of their implant products.
